Abstract
Habitual abortion is recognized as one part of infertility. But the patients with habitual abortion experienced different suffer from repetitive pregnancy and spontaneous abortion. This study was designed to evaluate the effects of Oriental treatment on habitual abortion by retrospective analysis.
From January 1998 to December 1998, 171 patients with a history of repeated spontaneous abortion were selected for this study. Total patients were divided into 3 groups. Group A : patients who were succeeded in pregnancy and delivery after the oriental treatment. Group B : patients who were pregnant but experienced re-abortion. Group C : patients who weren¢¥t pregnant after the treatment. And the patients of each group were evaluated for age, constitution, the number and gestational age of previous abortion, the cause of habitual abortion, the success rate by different cause, the method and period of treatment etc.
The results were as follows.
1. Group A was 45.6%. Group B was 16.4%. Group C was 38.0%
2. There were no significant difference of each group in age, constitution, the number and gestational age of previous abortion, and the method and period of treatment.
3.The patients who had unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion were comparatively successful with oriental treatment.
4. 53.7% of the patients in group A were treated with oriental medicine in early stage of pregnancy.
The success rate in our study was 45.6%. Patients with a history of two and three abortions have a subsequent spontaneous abortion risk of 35% and 47%(American Fertility Society, 1994). In our study the abortion rate was 31% and 13%. These results imply the oriental treatment was efficacious in reducing the abortion risk.
